Is it legal to use Lightroom 5 I bought as a Student after graduating?

I am in a discussion with a guy on Facebook about the illegality of using student software versions. He says I would need to buy the software again at the normal price, because it's illegal to use it after graduating from school. Is he right?

Asked the Adobe team on twitter at the same time as here, and got the answer, that of course I can use the student version, even though I am not a student anymore.

You would have to read the license agreement to know for sure. However, I don't think there is such a limitation. In any event, there is no possibility for you to purchase Lightroom 5 again. The version is ancient history. In fact there is NO version of Lightroom that can be purchased as a freestanding license anymore. There is no support for any freestanding version of Lightroom, including Lightroom 5. Adobe has transitioned to a subscription model. The current version of the version that replaced Lightroom 5 is now known as Lightroom Classic, and is currently at version 10.1.1, soon to be updated again.

For what it's worth, I purchased Lightroom 5 as a student version and used it even though it was purchased as an academic version. I was employed at a university at the time. I used it for several years for personal use until I eventually switched over to the subscription model.

If you want to persist on using that version I don't think you have any choice because it isn't available anywhere anymore. It isn't being updated and Adobe isn't supporting it in any manner at all.
