Is it possible to create collections from folders in the "old" Lr 6.14?

I feel uncomfortable with the whole idea of turning folders into collections. Why? If you have one structure (a folder) that contains a set of photos, why create another structure (a collection) that contains the same set of photos? I don't see a benefit, but I do see lots of manual work (and don't make a mistake!)

In folders I can delete / for good photos, in Collection that is not possible.

I have my workflow in Folders but I'm inclined to start in Collections.

Easier to have one photo in many "places" at the same time.

I still don't understand the benefit of making collections from folders. If you want to distinguish good from bad, assign a color label, or star rating, or keyword. All of this moving/copying photos isn't necessary to distinguish some photos from other photos.

No, I do not think this was available in that old version already. However, you can always do this manually. Select all images in the folder, create a new collection and check the box to add the selected images to that collection, and give the collection the same name as the folder (or choose another name if you want).

It does involve a bit more work, but not much and certainly not meticulous work. Select all the images with Cmd/Ctrl-A, create a collection and check a box in that dialog. That's all, big deal. And more importantly, it's the only way you can do this in Lightroom 6.14, so take it or leave it.
