Question

IS there a way to identify in the Library metadata which of my Canon files were taken in HDR mode?

I was doing some experimenting with my Canon R6 Mk ll on landscape photos today. Some shots were just RAW, some were HDR, and some were HDR PQ. While looking at the files in Lightroom Library, the ones that are HDR stand out (and they are .JPG files)… but the HDR PQ and regular RAW files look almost identical… (and they are both CR3 files).

Is there anything I can click in the Customize Metadata Panel that will show this type of file information?

The simplest way is to use the filter (top of the images in library mode). Filter on metadata->File type. You should see raw, jpeg, and HIF (the HDR PQ files are HEIF files) as separate options to filter on. In the metadata panel, the default metadata option should show you the full filename which you can see from the extension what it is but you can simply add the filetype option in the customize button to tell you what kind of file you are dealing with but of course it is just going to be the extension anyway.

Are you talking about Lightroom Classic (LrC icon) or Lightroom (Lr icon), or some other software?? You don’t tell us.

If Lightroom Classic, then LrC does not show all the metadata that is in the photo file. To see all of the metadata, you could use something like the free Exiftool.

Well, it wouldn’t be some other software since I mentioned Lightroom… but yes, I did forget to mention the build. Lightroom Classic version 15.6 on an iMac M4.

Thank you for the tip on the Exiftool. I was simply hoping there was a way in LR since I have a few hundred files to go through, and that would have been faster… but your suggestion will work!
