Issue with Lightroom running out of memory

Hi - I have been trying for several weeks now to download a whole bunch of photos from my iPhone into lightroom. Every time I try this, it cannot even load all the images in the "Import photos" dialog and often times out, or when I pass this screen it ends up freezing in the middle of the import and my photos do not import properly, or I am missing half of them.  Please let me know what the solution is to this issue, as I have been experiencing this for a while and my CC Lightroom application is up to date with the latest version.

Also, inquiry

The hard drive that your catalog is in, how much free space? Both by % and my amount, but mostly %, looking for at least 20%

The hard drive you are placing your photos on, how much free space, this one by amount.

From your screenshot, and please use the insert photo button, please do not attach

But, I got off topic

I take it you are using MACOS, perhsps Catalina?

If Catalina, outside of LrC, bring up on the MACOS System Preferences, select Security and Privacy, select Files and Folders, for Lightroom Classic, make sure all media types are checked, do the same for Photoshop

How are you downloading your images? What is your workflow. Be very specific, very wordy, step by step.

My workflow is very simple.
Open Lightroom (opens to the Catalog where I want to import the photos)

Connect my iPhone to the computer via Apple cable

Click "Import" in Lightroom

Import modal window loads and takes forever to load because there are so many images on my phone I have not yet imported into Lightroom (many of the thumbnail previews do NOT load) and I can't seem to even go through this screen to select SOME of the images to download at a time so that it's not trying to download thousands of images at a time

Then I receive the "Your system has run out of application memory" message

Note - the hard drive where my catalog lives (1 TB external drive) is about half full

Try changing your workflow. Before launching LrC, use your file browser in your OS to Copy those videos and images to your hard drive, Copy them to the folder you would have been importing to. Then launch LrC, select Import, select ADD select the videos and images, and Import.

Consider in the options to create minimum or no previews at import, that can speed import up at the cost of slowing down initial editing.

I don't seem to be able to control how many photos Lightroom wants to load initially after clicking the "Import" button, it just loads whatever is on your phone that you haven't yet downloaded...It's probably around 8,000 JPGs from my iPhone that haven't been downloaded since I have been trying for a while now to get this to work.

Please provide the following basic information

Also, your title says "running out of memory", but your text says freezing  or time out. Explain that further as well.
