Question

Issues with: Importing, panorama, undo, labels

I'm experience many issues with Lightroom Classic right now that started about 2 weeks ago when I was away on vacation. Running Lightroom Classic 12.0.1 on a 2021 M1 MacBook Pro. (I cannot definitely say that it started right after the 12.0.1 update, but it roughly lines up with it)

I first became away of issuses, when I went to import photos from an SD card when I was on vacation. I went to copy the files through the import dialog box, but when I clicked import, I would see the progress bars above the Navigator window, but the images did not appear in the collection I added it to, and under Catalog > Previous Import it was at 0 and no images where in there. When I check the finder to check the location of where the images were copied to, they were indeed copied. If I quit Lightroom and reopened it, then everything would appear to be normal. The images where in the Collection they were added to and appeared in Previous Import section too.

Then, while I was editing these images, I went to stitch a panorama together. The panorama dialong box opens, I click Merge, again, the progress bar appears, but then the merged image does not appear. If I go to the library and check the All Photographs section, the image is there, but doesn't appear in the collection which the file was created in. If I quit Lightroom and reopen, then the photo appears in the correct collection. (This is the same issue with HDR or when using a Plugin)

What makes all this worse, is after both scenarios listed above, then a bunch of things just stop working properly. If I try and add a colour label to an images, is does not show up on the filmstrip. If I try to undo an action, it does not undo. If I try and create a virtual copy, it does not show up. If I drag a photo from one collection to another collection, it does not move. When I quit lightroom, and restart it, sometimes, some of these things would happen. Sometime the labels I added would be there. Sometimes the image was moved into the right collection.

So right now, my workflow is if I have to import something or photo merge something or use a plugin, I have to immediately restart Lightroom after. At this point, Lightroom works normaly until I have to preform one of these actions again.

I've checked the integrity of my Catalog, I've optimized it, no change.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom, no change.

Please help.

You keep referring to collection, do you actually mean folder?

Most operations in LrC can be accomplished when selecting via a collection, but the results, like a merge, might only show up in the folder those photos actually reside in.

No, I mean Collections. I've been using lightroom this way for years, never had issues like this. When I'm in a Collection, and I create a merged image, it used to always show up beside the images that it was merged from. The same way as if I send and edit an image in Photoshop. The edit always saves right beside the original in the same collection. And I know it still suppose to work this way, because when I restart Lightroom, that merged photo shows up in the collection like it's suppose to.

I organize my library through collections. Folders are how they are stored on my harddrives. I have my library mostly saved to a NAS. I save my photos into folders that are based on dates. I do not move or touch the folder structure once I've imported them.
