Katalog in Lightroom Classic ist wiederholt defekt

english version below

Hallo zusammen.

Hello everyone,

For the second time in three days, I’ve lost my entire Lightroom catalog with about 20,000 images. I do have backups and everything, but unfortunately the virtual copies are catalog-based, so I can’t simply do without the old catalog files.

Facts:
All images are stored locally. Under “Collections” in LrC, I can still open and view all images. Under “Folders”, however, I only see the bare folder structure. Whenever I open one of the image folders, Lightroom only shows the message “No photos in folder.” Starting Lightroom with “Alt” and running the catalog integrity check does not change anything. The only thing that helps is creating a new catalog and importing from another catalog. After that, everything is back and working again. BUT: that import takes hours, and I can’t make a full catalog backup every single day. That also takes about an hour.

System:
Windows 10 Pro with the latest LrC version 15.2

Any ideas, even stupid ones?

BR

It's very unusual for the catalog backup to take an hour. How large is the catalog?

The backup of my catalog (incl optimizing) takes about 5 minutes. The file size of my catalog is approx. 800 MB.

Do you sync your catalog with Microsoft’s OneDrive? If yes, can this be the reason for the issues with your catalog. In this case try to exclude all Lightroom folders from syncing with OneDrive.

    My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 26H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 9 - PureRAW 6 - Topaz Photo AI

Catalog repeatedly becoming defective is a sign that your hard disk where the catalog is stored is malfunctioning. Probably you need to run deep diagnostics on it. Temporarily restore a backup of the catalog and associated files to a different disk and see if the problem goes away. If either of these show the disk is malfunctioning, you will have to get it replaced.

Next time when this happens, try if deleting ‘Catalogname Helper.lrdata’ in your catalog folder solves this problem.
