the keyword list is suddenly cluttered with words I never entered and never used. It's completely unusable now and I refuse to delete those words manually one by one. Why do those words show up and how can I stop Lightroom from doing this?
Menu command in the Library module: Metadata->Purge Unsused Keywords
UPDATE: I wrote this before you wrote the message where the keywords are coming from Stock pictures, if that is the case, then the above command won't work as the keywords are not UNUSED. You could delete the stock photos and use the above command, but that's probably not what you want to do.

Select the arrow at the right of a keyword to see to which photo it belongs. What's the source of the photo?

Okay, the sources are stock pictures from Adobe which I have imported. So you are right and it's not Lightroom acting on its own. Now, how do I delete multiple keywords at one time? I can't delete dozens of keywords one by one..
