Keyword Editing Performance decrease in 11.3

I just installed version 11.3.

There is a very significant performance decrease in metadata (working on one photo).

It is something that was handled in this version - they reported improved of performance in multiple photos

Correct answer RanDembo

After re-srarting LR, I do not see a problem now.

Yesterday I experienced very slow response in handling keywords:

  • Working on a single photo at a time
  • Pasting 20-30 keywords
  • Cut / paste / adding

LR was very slow, took a few seconds to display data, sorting and re-display the data.

Nothing else in LR or the PC seems than slow / busy.

I did yesterday the same keyword editing action that I do regularly.

I will try to do more tests

LR some time have performance issues that restart LR improve, but usually not with metadata.

After more test:

It not nearly as bad as it was the first time with 11.3.

There is defenitly some decrease in performance (pasting and editing keywords on a single photo), in many cases, but its still workable

I'm experiencing similar issues when applying color labels and flags. In 11.3.x it's barely usable, but when I downgraded to 11.2 the input in snappy to apply the labels. Specifically related to using the keyboard (either top keys or numpad 0-9).

@brandonmartinez are you facing the same kind of slowness related to color label and flags in 11.4/11.4.1 as well.
@Masa5CA4 @RanDembo Can you please share a video here showing the problem. Is it WIN or MAC?
For how many images are the keywords applied and how many keywords are you applying at one go.

11.4.1 is better, but it does feel slower than 11.1 (which is what I downgraded to after this performance decrease). Usable, but there's a lag from applying the metadata using a keyboard shortcut (e.g., x/p, 0-9), the notification popping up that it's been applied, and then the visual update within the grid or filmstrip with the flag or color being applied.

Usable, but could be better.

I belive I am experiencing similar issues around keywords in Lightroom Classic 11.3. I am on a MacBook Pro (Intel i7) running macOS 12.3.1. When in gallery view, the "Keyword Tags" list is very slow to load, blinks into and out of visibilty randomly, and is not correlating with the recent keywords set highlights.

Steps to reproduce:

This is behavior visible when nagivating through photos in Gallery view with the keywords menu visible in the right sidebar. I am not updating the keywords or adding new ones, I am just clicking around the library.

Expected result

I expect the keyword tags box to update quickly as I navigate between photos. I expect the EXIF information to update quickly as well. when moving across hundreds of photos there has previously been a slight lag, but less than a second is typical.
Actual result

What is happening is the keyword tags box goes empty, then fill in, then go emtpy again. When toggling between just two photos, the tags will appear sometimes, and remain blank other times. Sometimes the tags pop back in after 1-2 seconds, sometimes 4-6 seconds, sometimes never. The EXIF panel is also very slow to update. I am seeing a spinning indicator for several seconds, even when toggling back and forth between photos.

It doesn't seem to be a RAM issue when I look at the usage in Activity Monitor. I have restarted Lightroom Classic several times and I've rebooted the laptop several times. There is no change in the behavior.

LrC 11.3.1 just release. No release notes yet - should deal with bugs and stability.

I installed it, but need time to test

My PC runs with Windows 10.
After the Lightroom Update from Version 11.2 to 11.3 Lightroom classic crashed several times.

So i installed Lightroom Version 11.2 and everything was fine again. I hope Adobe will fix this issue!

This is too vague to mean anything to anyone. Please be specific and detailed. What did you do, and what happened that indicated "performance decrease"?

Pasting or editing keywords is now significantly slower

I will test that out when I get home.

What operating system and version number are you using?

The change is a direct result of version 11.3.

Specifically in handling keywords.

"I have many preferences defined, why to delete them?"

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. This article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help:

In a first step please try resetting the preferences of Lightroom Classic:   https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:
