Keywords in LR not seen in Bridge

I searched for an answer to this but could not find one.

I have the latest version of LR Classic (and Photoshop). I have entered keywords in LR for almost all of my photos (mostly .dng format), and when I view these photos in Bridge 2019, the keywords do not appear. I did tell LR to save the metadata to file.

Strangely, not all of my folders behave this way. In some cases, Bridge is able to read the keywords from LR.

In another post, I read this statement:

"By default, both Bridge and LR read and write keywords to the metadata fields XMP:Subject, XMP:HierarchicalSubject, and IPTC:Keywords"

I do not have XMP sidecar files (if that is in fact what is being referred to here).

As you can gather, I am confused as to what is happening!

Any suggestions??

    I can successfully write keywords (using Ctrl+S) to selected photos  NEF and DNG files in Lightroom, and the Keywords do appear in Bridge.

    So I am not sure what your problem is.

    With raw (NEF) files, the write metadata command (Ctrl+S) writes the metadata to an XMP sidecar file that Bridge is 'aware' of..

    With raw (DNG) files (and JPGs), the write metadata command (Ctrl+S) writes the metadata combined within the image file (no extra XMP file)

    Bridge does not show keyword hierarchy, but lists all 'parent' and 'child' keywords as a single list.

    What are the NUMBERS of your "Latest versions" of Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge?

    I have solved the problem, and I am embarrassed to admit that it was of my own making!

    I store all my photos on an external drive so that I can access them from my laptop as well as my desktop. I then sync the Pictures folder on the external drive with the Pictures folder on a storage drive on my desktop. When I added keywords in LR and saved the metadata, this applied to the files on my external drive. Before I got around to syncing the two folders, I opened Bridge, and (stupidly!) accessed the photos on the storage drive on my desktop. Obviously the keywords were absent!! When I checked the correct drive, the keywords were present.

    As I said, I caused the problem, not LR or Bridge. I have to pay more attention to which drive I access.
