Lagging Library & Slow Performance Despite Smaller Catalogs

Hi,

My lightroom has been running extremely slowly for a while now and I cannot seem to find the cause. There is a delay to almost everything I do in the software now which makes even culling a dreadful job as the time is almost doubled waiting for the library to catch up. I have divided my catalogs up into smaller sizes to try and alleviate the issue but the problem persists. If my Windows PC is struggling I would love to know what the major cause is and what I should look at to upgrade it.

As an experiment, try turning off your anti-virus software.

"Displays: 1) 3840x2160

DirectX: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (32.0.15.7700)
User Preference: Off"

You've got a 4K display but the GPU is turned off.  Set Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Auto and verify it says "Your system automatically supports full acceleration".

If that doesn't help, work through the good resources Bill posted.

Thanks for the reply!

I normally have the GPU acceleration on auto, but i'd read a thread recently that said that I should try turning it off. It made very little difference.

I've done all the steps in the resource that Bill posted. Have done so before, only thing I have changed is that i've expanded the cache from 60GB to 100GB. It's slightly better but not as fast as it should feel.

I searched for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.   The suggestion came back that it is an older GPU that is optimized for HD, not 4K.   The readout you provided didn't specify the CPU.   It might be that, in the world of graphics, your computer is begining to show some age.   We never like it when that happens, but it does.

There is also another video and a list of suggestions here:  https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/optimize-performance-lightroom.html

Adobe's "Worldwide Evangelist", Terry White, has a recent video that reviews Lightroom Classic performance improvements.   Please see if any of it helps your system.
