Latest LR overwriting original RAW files when denoise applied

The old version of Denoise created a new DNG. The new version is modifying and overwriting the original DNG ..... AND adding all the subsequent processing to it. I keep my RAW files seperate from LR specifically to preserve their integrity. Is this a glitch or by design. ? If it is I will NOT use Denoise in future as I do not want my RAW files altered.

anyone have any info,

regards, Steve

Lightroom Classic does not overwrite anything. The new Denoise settings are on-destructive settings, just like any other develop settings. If Lightroom Classic writes to the DNG, then apparently you have 'Automatiaclly write changes to XMP' enabled, which means it writes edits as metadata to the header of the DNG. It does not overwrite the file however, and does not change the raw data in that file.

If you have DNG originals, the image portion of the file is NEVER modified by LrC. The original pixels are unchanged.

Now (if you so choose), LrC will write the denoise metadata into the metadata portion of your original DNG. If you don't want LrC to do this, simply uncheck "Automatically Write to XMP".

Then why are my original RAW files marked as modified with the date and time I processed them ? This has never occurred in the past.

Like I said, writing metadata to files does that.
