Question

LC Develop>Basic>HDR Mode Conversion in PS

Hi Folks,

I've read through the tips and tutorials and can't seem to come up with an answer to this specific issue.

When I try to edit an image in PS after applying Basic >HDR, I am unable to edit because it is a 32 bit image. If I then try to change the Mode to 16 or 8 bit, it applies an HDR effect which is different from how it appears in 32 bit. Is there a way to get around this? What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Assuming you are talking about HDR treatment, and it sounds like you are, then the answer to that is YES.

So the question is now, why is the image in PS failing to allow you to edit it in 32 bit

Can you expand upon the failure in PS when you select edit in PS from LrC. What is going wrong  when in 32 bit (ignoring the Mode change)

First, thanks for the reply.

Yes, the HDR treatment you show in your screenshot is what I'm talking about.

I had a photo with a subject with a hat on and their eyes in shade. I used edit>photoshop and tried to use the Dodge tool. I got an error message that it wouldn't work in a 32 bit image. So I went to mode and downsampled. Whether 8 or 16 bit it then applied an unwanted HDR effect that was totally different than the 32 bit image which I preferred. How do I get around that? I also can't edit the 32 bit image in Topaz photo AI>

I do not think this has anything to do with LrC, or the HDR treatment in LrC, or Edit in PS from LrC.

I think this is simply PS does not support the Dodge tool on 32 bit.

You might want to inquire in the PS community

after applying Basic >HDR

By that you mean you clicked on the HDR treatment as shown below?

please disregard my histogram, as my monitor does not support HDR , treatment,  just meant to show where the HDR treatment is .applied

Oh, if your LrC histogram looks like that, then you should not be attempting HDR treatment.
