Leica DNG Preview Files

I have just updated my Lightroom to 6.14 and it no longer shows my Leica DNG files in the preview when I am uploading them. The files upload ok, but it has just started happening with this update. Anybody else having this problem or have a solution for it.

    Just to update my last post. Just started to import some Nikon NEF files and no preview available for these before I import them. I am using the card reader built into my iMac and have had no problems before this latest update. think I may have to restart the iMac and see if this makes a difference!!

    Open the LR Preferences and go to the Performance tab and turn off, un check, the option to use the GPU.

    When you say 'preview', do you mean the import window? If so, have you got the import window expanded to full size?

    Hi Mike,

    It occurs when I import the files from the card onto my iMac, I get a blank image saying preview not available. Once they are imported everything is fine. It only started with the latest update !!

    I'm assuming from what you have said that, as a first step, you are downloading the RAW (DNG) files to a drive on your iMac with the intention of then importing the files into your Lightroom catalogue using the 'add' function at the top of the import window.

    If I'm correctly understanding, it sounds as though your problem is more likely to be your OS. Without knowing what OS version you are running, my guess is that your iMac can't read the NEF files (or at least the embedded jpeg within them). This might be corrected by some software update. It could be useful to Google the problem to check whether others are experiencing a similar problem.

    For what it's worth, I also use Leica and have never experienced this issue with DNG files. Having said that, I use a different workflow in which I download files from my SD card (inserted into SD reader slot on my pc tower) ; Open up Lightroom's import window; instruct Lightroom to 'copy' the files to my chosen location (external hard drive) and make a copy to another location at the same time.

    We all have our favoured workflows, so I hesitate to suggest that mine would be slightly quicker and more streamlined. However, it would be a sensible workaround to the problem you are having.
