Lens name in Lightroom loupe info?Lens profile for "supported" lens?

I just have started shooting photo with my new camera(D850) and lens(TAMRON 70-200 f/2.8 A025).

So I am also started to learn Lightroom. To do that, I watched some Youtube videos and I just figured out that they have lens name in their loupe info.

It says like "EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM"

But my loupe info says like this "70-200mm f/2.8"

And also you can use "Lens Corrections" in Lightroom, but again my TAMRON lens didn't show up in lens profile collection.

I checked adobe HP about this and TAMRON A025 is supported on my Lightroom( Classic 8.3.1)

And I also checked TAMRON HP about this and it says I need to use DNG converter to use my lens setting.

I DID use DNG converter, yet my dng file is still not supported for "Lens Corrections" and didn't show the lens name.

Is there any way to show the lens name? or do you know why my TAMRON A025 didn't show up in lens profile?

In the Lens Corrrections, when you enable Profile Corrections, instead of using default, or auto, use custom for Setup. Auto and Default can lead to very few options under Model. Then select Tamaron for make, then scrool down on model, find your lens (lots and lots of Tamaron 70-200). That gives you the correct correction, does it change the Loupe Info (maybe, maybe not, I do not have a proper test)

Actualy, I think this will not change the info in loupe, and is probably buggy for a non RAW.

This one before my previous ones

Ahh a missing bit of info. Probably both lens correction and loupe info affected by this. Did not notice this info missing from your comments. Your use of DNG converter should have been a clue.

What version of Lightroom Classic are you running, the exact version, not "latest"

In Lightroom click on Help. clcik on System Information, click on copy, paste first 12 lines in your reply (yes first line the important one)

    And look at this:Supported lenses

looks like LR 6.9 or newer (6.14 would be newer, 6.14 would be last perpetual). Of course if your using the subscription Lightroom Classis, you have meet that.

also, to see what lens profiles you have in your copy follow this (for the most part):Julieanne Kost's Blog | Where does Lightroom Install Camera and Lens Profiles?   (I found on my v8. that right clcik where she states is one off, right clcik on lightroom Classic.app) and they are not under Camera Profile, they are under Lens Profile, this is probably a version change)

One possible cause of your issue of not seeing many Tamron lenses. How did you obtain that DNGfile, via import in Lightroom, via export in Lightroom, or via a third party converter?

Not everyone is treating the specs for DNG the same. Now in my playing around with this, (but not your lens in my samples) JPEG files failed miserabley, RAF worked, (FujiX RAW), a DNG worked.

(Even though you told me to ignore this but) This was the answer! I just didn't know that i can choose lens company, model, etc.

And you are right, this doesn't change my loupe infp.

As I thought I'd explained above, the info displayed is determined by the XML line stCamera:Lens="70.0-200.0 mm f/2.8" This will be used throughout Lightroom.

The reason for the difference between how the Canon and Tamron lenses are described can be seen in bold text lines below data extracted from the lens profiles you mention. Noticed that both the Lens Pretty Name and the displayed name are identical for the Canon whereas with the Tamron they differ. You should also note that the Tamron does not have a LensID but includes LensInfo, which the Canon doesn't. Typically, the absence of the ID indicates that the same lens is available for multiple camera vendors, which the Tamron is.

Yes is the answer to your question as to whether there is a way to show your preferred name. Using a Text Editor you can do a search for stCamera:Lens="70.0-200.0 mm f/2.8" in the profile and replace with stCamera:Lens="TAMRON SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 A025N". However, you'll need to repeat the search / replace procedure every time you update Lightroom/Camera Raw and/or DNG Converter.

thank you for the detailed reply.

I understand that loupe info is showing their stCamera:Lens. it is not about prettyname or lens ID(i guess).

so i believe if i use nikkor 70-200 same thing will happen. and if i change stCamera:Lens for my tamron, it will also change nikkor lens as a tamron lens. (unless lightroom recognize the difference between them by ID or prettyname).

btw it answered about loupe info but does not answer my 2nd question about lens profile in lens correction. adobe says nikkor and tamron are both supported so even if it doesn’t show in loupe info but it should show up in the lens correction, isn’t it?
