Lens profile shows up on RAW file, but i can't find the same profile to manually select it

Hi all,

When I open a raw file and tell LR to apply the lens profile correction, it selects the correct lens (sigma 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 II DG HSM)

If i export a TIFF of the raw file w/o lens correction applied, and then want to manually apply the same lens correction profile to the photo, my list of sigma lenses to choose from is drastically smaller. With the raw file, i probably have around 100 sigma lens profiles to choose from, but with the tiff i only have 9. And my lens isn't one of them. If i manually select sigma, the closest thing is sigma DG 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 EX HSM. But applying that profile doesn't apply the same corrections. If i compare a RAW file with the exported tiff and just apply lens correction to both images, they do not look the same.

Why is there a vastly smaller collection of profiles when I work with the exported tiff file? Is there some way to force adobe to apply the correct profile correction to the tiff file?

Most lens profiles are for raw files only.

So you have to apply the lens correction before exporting.

Do you know why it's just for raw files? It looks like it's just applying a geometry correction and some vignette correction. Why can't those some changes be applied to the tiff file?

Take a look at this article where it says

  • When you apply a lens profile to a non-raw file, such as a JPEG, you can experience unexpected results. Results vary because the data in non-raw files changes depending on how the file was created. If you get unexpected results with non-raw files, consider applying lens corrections manually or create a custom lens profile.

The best workflow is to apply lens profiles to raw files as part of the general editing, before exporting.

Jpg files from cameras taken with native lenses will be corrected in the camera.
