I upgraded my PC with new a new motherboard and a new CPU.  Now, Lightroom is in trial mode. Entering the license results in the following:

How should I remedy this?

You can only have LR installed, "Registered", on 2 computer at any one time.

So it seems that you had originally had it installed on the computer you changed the motherboard on and one other computer at some time in the past.

Changing the motherboard is like buying a New computer so the serial number was rejected when you tried to license LR.

You'll need to contact support to get your Activation's wiped out.

Thank you all for the tips.  I bought it more than 3 years ago.  I was searching my email archive and found "Welcome to Lightroom" email from Adobe. I believe it was in response to my registration. I cannot find Lightroom 6 on my account. I will contact them.

If it is LR 6 you should find it under the Manage Account link on the main Adobe website then click Register a Product and there you should see a list of previous product, Adobe software, you have registered under the Adobe ID you are signed in with.

IIRC when installing and or starting LR 6 for the first time you have to enter an Adobe ID and then enter the serial number and if an Upgrade serial number you have to then enter a serial number from any previous version of LR.

So you must sign in with the Adobe ID, email address and password, you used to Buy LR 6 with.

I just looked and there is no way to unregister, reset the number of registrations/activation's, on the Adobe website. So to do that you will need to contact customer care.

Implication per following link is a typo or pirated software, note that a phone number is included.

    Invalid or revoked serial numbers

Now, if you bought the license from Adobe, or way back then, bought it from a proper dealer  AND registered it at Adobe, then you should be able to login at Adobe.com (with the very account you logged into this forum?),  go and manage your account, look at registered products (when I tested this just now, had to click on register a product, to get to a listing of what I have, might have wording wrong) you should be able to retrieve your proper serial number.
