Question

License transfer necessary for LR 5 upgrade ?

Hello,

I am using LR 3 and want to buy a already used LR 5 Upgrade CD.

Is it necessary to tranfer the license of the previous owner to me, or will the upgrade run on my mac without any further steps ?

If a transfer is necessary, how would it be done ?

Thanks very much for an answer,

Karsten

Thank you all so far for your answers.

It seems to be quite complicated and also a little bit risky to purchase a used upgrade version.

Concernig your questions: I´m using OS 10.11 on a 2011 MAC.

Neither LR3 nor LR5 are supported any longer by Adobe (and depending on your own computer and OS, may not even run at all). If the installer for LR5 does run, it will probably ask for a valid LR4 serial number; not sure if the LR3 number will suffice (maybe). But at any rate, you won't be able to get any official support from Adobe for this... however here there may be some longtime users that recall the ins and outs of installing the older versions.

The original poster @Karsten27649196co7o needs not only to receive the license via the proper method, but he/she needs to obtain a valid serial number for LR5 from the original owner, and if that was originally purchased as an upgrade, then Karsten needs to obtain serial numbers associated with that license for earlier versions of LR as well. (Any valid serial number LR1 to LR4 will work in that case). Or maybe Karsten can use his/her own LR3 serial number, but I'm just not sure about that.

No reason why it wouldn't be OK. All that was required when using an LRx upgrade serial number was a "Qualifying" serial number (to be supplied manually by the user if there was no existing qualifying serial number stored in the correct place). AFAIK, there was no link (in terms of ownership) between the two numbers, they just had to be valid serial numbers.

Yes, a transfer is necessary.

Here you'll find the appropriate informations and the form: Transfer an Adobe product license

Please check carefully whether the purchase offer is a legal license

Which MacOS do you have installed?  LR5 is compatible with MacOS  v10.7, v10.8, v10.9, or v10.10.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 6 - Topaz Photo AI

Hello Axel,

I am using OS 10.11 with LR 3 running without any problems. So I guess LR 5 will work aswell.

Does LR 5 or even 6 run on actual OS ? At one stage I have to invest in a new mac.

By the way, thanks for your answer.
