I have been using LR on a macbook/air for years but it has become so slow its taking over 30 mins to import photos from an external hard drive, like under 200 raw files.

8g Macbook air

version ventura 13.2.1

My LR is on 12.1 relase

Attached a screenshot of the performance settings

Using Seagate Portable 2TB External Hard Drive HDD — USB 3.0 for PC, Mac, PlayStation, & Xbox via  a card reader plugged into my laptop

Any suggestions are appreciated.

An ongoing problem is causing many users to not be able to start LrC at all. One solution (yet to be proved by Adobe, but they are investigating) involves a CACH file and perhaps a user setting at Adobe.com. One member thinks his MACOS LrC v12.2.1 runs better after dealing with this.

as follows:

deleting this file on Mac cured his LR hanging on startup:

/Users/<username>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/metrics.json

That file appears to record usage data that gets sent back to Adobe when View Account > Edit Profile > Privacy And Personal Data > Desktop App Usage is enabled.

So you might try exiting LR, deleting that file, and restarting LR:

Mac: /Users/<username>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/metrics.json

Win: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\metrics.json

If that avoids the problem, then consider disabling the Desktop App Usage option:

Adobe might be modifying that last bit, at least one user turned it off only to find it turned back on latter
