Lightroom 13.1 Crashes Randomly

  • December 27, 2023

Have updated to 13, 13.0.1, 13.02 and now 13.1.  Crashes continue!

Crashes continue on random activities, but especially on exports. I can seldom go more than 15 minutes without a crash.

The crash reporter never comes up.  Often when I restart Lightroom it crashes on startup, but after multiple times it will start again.

I am running Win 11 22H2, an Intel I9, lots of memory and a Nividia 3090 with driver version RX-546.33

I have followed the steps given to fix crash problems.

This needs to be fixed!!!  I will be glad to help developers find and fix problems.

Thanks for your help.

Larry

I have not been able to fix it, mine still randomly crashes. I am on 13.2,
but still have a continuing problem. It happens infrequently enough that I
can still get work done.

@Larry31983747bf07

We’ve reviewed the email address you use with this forum and find no crash reports in our system.

Did you see a crash dialog?

Do you use a different email address when filling out the crash report?

Was the crash dialog Adobe’s? Microsoft’s?

In the performance tab I changed the video card support to custom and display only (turned off support for image processing). That seemed to have stabilized the program.  Otherwise I had the same repeated crashes as described above.

Installed Plugins:
1) AdobeStock
2) Flickr
3) LogiOptions
4) Nikon Tether Plugin

Specifically

3) LogiOptions

Now I do not think that plugin is the cause of your particular issue. It is however a known piece of junk that causes at least one problem. That is not the Mouse driver, nor the keyboard driver, it is used if and only if you want to use the extra buttons on your mouse or that odd dial on the correct keyboard (very specific Logitech products) as to act like a Loupedeck, to assign LrC actions to buttons. If you do not do that, then dump that plugin.

1. System Info

Ok

  • LrC v13.1
  • WIndows 11 22H2 (yes up to date)
  • Intel i9
  • Lots of RAM
  • NVIDIA RTX 3090 v546.33 (yes the latest)

Even though you gave the above important info in your initial post. Can you please reply back with a copy of your system information as LrC reports it:

  • Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut out as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs and it takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post.

2. Locations and size for catalog, photos, and exports of photos

  • The hard drive the catalog is on. How much free space in percent. As you might know, it needs at least 20%, some say 25% free
  • The hard drive your photos and I assume the exported photos are on. How healthy? And how much free space (for the photo, how large, quantitative, not that qualitative % value)

3. Hardware Drivers

  • Your Motherboard, specifically the drivers that support that motherboard. Are the various drivers (not just the GPU driver) up to date. One in particular is the Intel Chipset driver (I had this very problem with a new PC until I updated that one). You would need to visit the support page for your Motherboard or computer, not the Microsoft Updates.  In my case, a store built custom PC where I selected and bought all the parts, but the store had Internet issues on the day they built it, (I should have given them another day to finish assuming they would get their Internet back, but...and hence not all drivers were the latest)

4. Camera RAW CACHE

  • This would not be an issue involving Exports, well unless some odd post export preset gets involved, but how large do you let the Camera RAW CACHE get? The default 5GB is too too small. This would effect Develop Module edits, not Library Module, and normally not Exports. And more likely would effect performance not so much crashes.

5. Crash report/log

Do you get a crash report screen? This would prompt for info, an e-mail address, and a button to send to Adobe.

1. I will attach at end of email.

2. C drive, where my copy of Lightroom Classic is and the catalog, has 33%
free space. D drive, where the photographs are primarily stored, has over
50% free space.

3. Went out to the ASUS site and updated all drivers. All drivers are now
current.

Lightroom just crashed on me again.
