Lightroom 2.0 will not export to Photoshop CS3

OK,

So I downloaded and installed lightroom 2.0 this morning and things are not working well.

System: Macpro 2.8, 8 gb ram, os x 10.5.4, nikon d300 raw files

The problem...

It started with Lightroom not exporting any images to photoshop. Doesn't matter if I try to send 1 or 20, I get a spinning beach ball, then nothing. if photoshop is closed it will open it, but nothing gets loaded into it. Plain export, merge to panoramic, edit as smart object, nothing does anything.

Tried in both 32 and 64 bit modes, tried re-installing Lightroom 2.0 from scratch. still nothing. I sent a sample raw file into adobe and am waiting to hear back, but figured I'd see what everyone else thinks as well.

Awwwwww....this whole recent discussion of improving Adobe's communication has been swell....but could we please get back to the point of this forum thread (Kevin) and give us an indication of when we will have a resolution to these problems. I know that Kevin has said the work is done and it's being tested (don't short change that ...) but I am leaving for a trip mid-next week and it would be kind of nice to know that I could take a machine that properly integrates PS3 and LR2.

So, Kevin, could you please tip your hand as to when this patch version will be released and available for download.

BTW - if you are looking for somebody to beta test the integration, I'd be delighted to do so. Maybe a whole bunch of the people who worked this thread would like to vet the update.

Kevin, good news about 'the new message board system' being in the works, We all hope it turns out better than the last 'improved system' that was a complete flop!

Hope it gets plenty of vetting. You guys know who to turn to to get it well worked out!

I passed on the request for pinning notes at the start of threads. It turns out that apparently a new message board system is in the works (yay!). Hopefully the spec already includes the feature, but if not, it should get added to the queue.

Jan, check out message #228, which summarizes the problems and solutions ( Kevin Tieskoetter, "Lightroom 2.0 will not export to Photoshop CS3" #228, 13 Aug 2008 2:59 pm) (I have no idea why the link to message #228 says 227 in it, but whatever)

I am also one of many waiting for a fix for this problem, and yes, I am VERY frustrated how long it takes for Adobe to release a fix.

Before I continue ranting, I am also a BIG fan of Lightroom because I think it has outstanding capabilities and provides for a very high productivity for managing and processing images. I think Adobe deserves a lot of credit for developing such a great software product.

In my previous life (before I retired) I was head of SW Development for a large enterprise software provider. Because our customers demanded quick resolution for "Show Stopper" level bugs, we had three levels of SW "releases". Namely: Major Releases (about one every year), Minor Releases (Service Packs), and "Hot Fix Packs". The Hot Fix Packs were designed to quickly release fixes for "Show Stopper" level problems. Hot Fix Packs were cumulative and got bundled into the Service packs when they became available. Depending on the urgency of fixes, we could release a Hot Fix Pack within a week of a Show Stopper problem occurrence. The frequency of Service Packs was driven by a number of factors, but usually became available in the range of every three to six months.

Given the fact that so many users (businesses) of Adobe depend on a reliably working product, Adobe should be more responsive of fixing serious problems and I urge them to review their software release policies.

I just download the Windows Lightroom V2 upgrade, and immediately found that I could not move seamlessly to Photoshop CS3, as touted by Adobe. Also can't open as a Smart Object in Photoshop either. Photoshop opens, but the file never appears.

After a little digging I found this forum indicating others have had similar problems. I do not wish to filter through 300 + messages of people arguing about why Adobe released with this known bug. I just want to find out what I need to work around this. I am now wishing I had waited a little longer, to upgrade....but what is done is done.

I am running Windows XP... Can anybody summarize in simple terms what I need to do?

Good luck Kevin! If you can get something like this organised you may find yourself voted in as President (of the US, not Adobe) by thankful users. As Alisdair points out, to integrate the whole matter, there needs to be an FAQ item that directs users to the same thing, then everything would be consistent and there would be only one item to update on any particular matter. It would always be in sync with the discussion on this forum AND would include any developments or relevant plans/strategies by Adobe. (And if other threads pop up on the same topic, they can be intercepted and pointed quickly to the chosen master topic - the one with the maintained sticky - to keep things together).

    Thanks for you efforts.

Julian / Karina, fair points - but I suppose I was thinking that much of the structure is there - perhaps they just need to update it :)
