Lightroom 6 does not get beyond splash screen

I am running LR 6.0 on a Dell laptop with Windows 10.

On re-installing LR the software does not get beyond the splash screen

I have tried renaming the cache files and multiple re-installs but to no effect

Software was running fine last week, so I cannot understand what has happened

Many thanks

Okay so how about a backup from before you noticed it was missing? How often does Lightroom backup? Every time you exit or Once a week? The missing Tokina profile seems to be the lesser of the problems right now. If you can't open Lightroom at all, I would first try to restore from a backup. If you are able to open Lightroom from a backup then you can download and install the Tokina lens profile.

1. Restore a backup catalog

  1. Choose File > Open Catalog.
  2. Navigate to the location of your backed up catalog file.
  3. Select the backed up .lrcat file and click Open.
  4. (Optional) Copy the backed up catalog to the location of the original catalog to replace it.

2.Work with lens profiles in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Camera Raw

Thank you cmgap and everyone for your help and advice

Opening from an earlier backup, LR tries to open the catalog file, but still hangs in the same place.

I will leave it running in case it just needs to catch up with itself, but it looks to me more as if it is how the program itself opens that is the issue, rather than the database itself.

If all else fails I can go back to a factory boot

There was a backup after I noticed that the Tokina profile was missing

The advice was to do a complete reinstall.

Sadly I have only an image from about 2 months ago

When you exited Lr before the trouble did you backup Lr? I am not referring to a system backup.

Thanks Just Shoot Me but that has not fixed the issue. Software hangs at the same stage

Did this person advising you mean to reinstall the Tokina profile or Lr? Do you have a recent backup that you can roll back to?

The profile for my Tokina 11-20 lens was no longer showing on the drop down.  I was advised by someone else to try re-installing, since the profile was originally working fine there

Try updating LR to the .10 update from here.

Download Photoshop Lightroom

Why did you reinstall LR. Please give the full details on what happened originally that made you try a reinstall.
