Lightroom 6 keeps crashing on macos High Sierra

The issue:

  • every time I open Lightroom it crashes - it doesn't even get past the splash screen

How I've tried to fix it:

  • held shift/option and tried opening with no preferences running (doesn't work)
  • deleted the file Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom6.plist (doesn't work)
  • deleted the app: Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe Lightroom/Uninstall Adobe Lightroom - downloaded the most recent .dmg from Adobe - reinstalled it (this DOES work, but only for a short while before it goes back to crashing again)
  • in the brief period after the reinstall, when I can open LR, I've:
    • unset the 'Use Graphics Processor' check box (doesn't make any difference)
    • opened a new, empty catalogue (doesn't make any difference)

I have the following:

  • Lightroom v6.0
  • macos High Sierra 10.13.1 (17B1003)
  • hi-spec macbookpro

Any advice much appreciated - before I look at Luminar and ON1 as more reliable alternatives (and yes Luminar is about to include asset management so I wonder if it's more stable than LR)

Thanks to all contributions.

For anyone else who bumps into this - the Adobe download instructions are VERY misleading:

...when you go here:  Download Photoshop Lightroom https://helpx.adobe.com/in/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html

...the top Mac link under "Application Installers" does NOT load the correct v6.13 version, but the one containing the macos High Sierra fault - if you download from that top link it will keep crashing - lock you out - and not give you the chance to run an upgrade from WITHIN Lightroom, as you'd normally expect to do so - i.e. you won't be ablte to install the 6.13 patch (you have to load the 6.13 patch from scratch).

...instead, go down the page to the "Updates" (Lightroom 6.13) link, as suggested by those above.

Hi

Please update the Lightroom 6.0 to version 6.13 from the below link

Download Photoshop Lightroom

Updating Lightroom to latest version will fix the issue.

Thanks
