Lightroom 6 standalone not working after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 [was: Windows 8]

After recently upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 my LR6 no longer displays photos/thumbnails. In "Develop" I can see photos but no thumbnails. Graphics processor GeForce GT 710/PCIe/SSE2. Any suggestions?

Something in the back of my head is pushing me yo think that you should consider resetting the preference file. Following is my canned info on that, all though perhaps more post v6

__________________________

Sounds like a canadate for resetting the preference file. Resetting the preference file is Adobe speak for deleating the preference file and then letting Lightroom Classic to recreate it.

The preference file can get corrupted, resulting in odd behavior. Some people have a knee jerk reaction in thinking they need to uninstall then reinstall Lightroom Classic, maybe that could be called for, but it would be better to first reset the preference file.

Be aware that resetting the preference file will result in Lightroom Classic creating a new catalog instead if opening your previously opened catalog (normally) so make sure you know where your catalog is.

Be aware the resetting the preference file will revert some settings in Preferences to defaults. So be aware of what you have changed, so that you can put those back the way you want them.

By the way, once you have the v6.14 installer, etc, keep a copy, do not deleat after install. Adobe may at any time remove the download source. adjust saying.

Third in the System Info

Operating system: Windows 8.1 Home Premium Edition
Version: 6.3 [9600]
Application architecture: x64

Now that is confusing on two levels.

The smaller issue. version 6.3, might be a old inconsistent bug that updating from v6.0 might resolve. Mostly an annoyance.

But the bit about Windows 8.1. And memory of how your posting was originally about going from v7 to v8, then context about v7 to v10. Aggggggg

Ok, outside of Lightroom, in your OS. See this article on how to view the OS system info as Windows 10 reports it;

Second up in the System Info

Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Version: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 432.00
Renderer: GeForce GT 710/PCIe/SSE2
LanguageVersion: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler

So v 432.00. Looking at the NVIDA web site, latest version for the GeForce GT 710 is v441.87

In the Adobe documentation, whenever looking for solutions to problems, update GPU driver always comes  up.

On your computer you should have an NVIDIA app called GeForce Experiance, launch it, check it for updates, then use the driver tab to look at your current driver, check for update, and update.

Never ever ever rely on Microsoft updates fir anything not Microsoft.

So from your system info a few things.

First up

Lightroom version: 6.0 [1014445]

That would be the first version of Lightroom 6. The last version is v6.14 (that is six point fourteen, not six point one four)

I think you can still get the update (for a Windows OS, not so much for MACOS Catalina)

If you registered your copy at Adobe, see https://helpx.adobe.com/in/download-install/kb/downloaded-older-app.html

Other members may have additional routes of obtaining.

note, the issue with updating to 6.14 on Catalina is due to the installer being 32bit, Catalina absolutly refuses 32 bit apps.

Did you perhaps hit F6 by mistake, and hid the filmstrip?

Can you post your system information as lightroom reports it? In Lightroom click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste into a reply, include info from first line to just after plug-ins. Info after plug-ins not if interest.

Glad I read your contents as opposed to just going after the header.

I wonder if anyone can edit the header, Windows 8?

Then, oh, Windows 10, makes a lot morse sense.

Followup/I see the Moderator fixed that, good.
