Lightroom 6 won't recognise RAW files

I recently upgraded LR 5 to 6, because I bought a Canon 80D and 5 doesn't support the RAW files from the new camera. Now that I've downloaded and started 6, it won't recognise the RAW files I've recently taken on the 80D. I bought the perpetual licence and have installed it on Windows 8. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    The 80D needs LR6.5 or later.

    Please update to the latest version 6.10.

    Run the update from LR's help menu or download from here: Download Photoshop Lightroom
