Question

Lightroom always crashes, even without any activity from me

There is no warning. Lightroom suddenly crashes. The screen goes black and the computer no longer responds to any input. I have to shut down the computer using the power button and restart it completely. Even if I turn off the Nvidia 4070 GPU, this does not change the catastrophic instability of the software. I got the same result with Photoshop. The computer crashed completely there too. Again, turning the GPU on or off doesn’t matter.
Last week I completely lost the keywords and face recognition on around 300,000 images. The constant crashes corrupted the files.  I have a Nvidia 4070, 96 GB Ram, 8TB HD, AMD Ryzen 7.
Thanks for your help. II really need it.

Computer shutting down completely is almost always a bad/corrupted/out-of-date driver, or a hardware malfunction. Reinstall your drivers (GPU, motherboard and any other), make sure they are up to date, make sure you have the Studio version of the GPU driver (not the game version). If that doesn't fix the problem, then you need to run deep diagnostics on all of your hardware. Also, if your computer has overclocked the CPU, disable that.

I assume you have made recent backups of your LrC catalog file, and backups of all of your photo files. If not, this is not good and your first priority should be to make backups on a different disk than the originals.

All driver are updated.  Backups are not the Problem. There are several Terrabytes of backups.... I could restore everything. It's only the waste of time...

I could solve the problem. Lightroom and Photoshop works stable if I only work with one GPU.

This is a hardware malfunction. Run diagnostics. Oh, I said that already.

We’ve reviewed the email address you use with this forum and find no crash reports in our system.

Did you see a crash dialog?

Do you use a different email address when filling out the crash report?

Was the crash dialog Adobe’s? Microsoft’s?

There is no crash report. The System crashed suddenly whitout any warnings as you would turn of  the power. But I found a solution. In my Hardware there are different GPU installed.  When I work only with one GPU in Adobe the system works stable. This configuration makes no problems in other Tools but it seems, that Lightroom and Photoshop can not handle this. I can live with this... So the problem is solved from my view.

Upon next crash, bring up the Windows Event Viewer and look for critical events.
