Lightroom and onedrive and transferring library

I need to transfer what is quite a large library from an old computer to a new one but as part of this transfer want to put the original photos in Onedrive. They are already linked to an existing lightroom catalogue on the old computer.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can change the location on my existing computer to a folder under onedrive (in itself easy but worried about losing the link to the lightroom catalog) for both the photos and the catalog file. Presumably i can then just log into lightroom on the new laptop and locate the catalog file from one drive and then lnk that to the location of the photos. The photos are physically all saved by year and month folders. Any help greatly appreciated

Be very careful with using a OneDrive folder as a location for the catalog file and images. There are many reports here of problems with doing this. The cause is likely that oneDrive selectively syncs files and this can cause major problems inside Classic. If you are just using it as a way to transfer the files it might work if you move the catalog and images out of the OneDrive folder to a normal location. Opening a catalog that resides in a OneDrive synced folder however cancause issues. If you want to transfer a lage catalog, you might be better off just using an external hard disk by the way. That will be way faster if you have typical broadband internet. On typical internet (usually upload is way lower than download on most broadband subscriptions) a typical image library will take many hours to days to upload. If you are on a gigabit fiber connection that might be less of a problem.

LOne Drive is Cloud Storage?? That is great for originals providing you have Smart Previews local. Catalogs must be on local drives...

See the attached link for info on moving Lightroom Classic to a new computer. It's a great resource with detail info.
