Question

Lightroom "Auto" and Camera Matching Profiles

Why don't you help us out and incorporate logic inside of Lightroom “auto” to disable vibrance and saturation adjustment on profiles other than your native profiles like Adobe Color and Adobe Standard.  It was designed to work only with your color matrices.

@JJGroves It NEEDS to be part of the system because technically it's not designed to adjust vibrance and saturation on non native profiles.

Auto was built using machine learning on a training set of thousands of photos adjusted by a pool of selected professional photographers. Over the years, I haven’t seen any authoritative information on whether that training set included photos with profiles other than Adobe Color. Do you have any authoritative references to that point?

The visual effects of the other Basic sliders also depends on the profile. So if Auto was trained solely on Adobe Color photos, using it on photos with other other profiles will produce outputs for those other sliders that will be just as much “not designed” as for Vibrance and Saturation. You may find in practice that you generally like the Auto settings of those sliders with particular profiles, but they’re no more “designed” than for Vibrance and Saturation, and your preference is just that -- a preference.

Jeffrey’s “Bag-o-Goodies” Lightroom Plugin has a section called Personalized Auto Tone which allows you to customize each adjustment more, less, no change.  I have it set for ‘Auto’ making no change to saturation or vibrancy.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it!  However I'm fine with auto’s tone adjustments it's just the vibrance and saturation part is flat out a system error on non native Adobe color matrices. I have a preset that zeros out vibrance and saturation so it would just be easy or more so than using a plug-in. This is not a subjective matter or a matter of taste. It NEEDS to be part of the system because technically it's not designed to adjust vibrance and saturation on non native profiles. This is technically a bug. It has nothing to do with subjectivity.  I wanted to apply vibrance and saturation adjustments to native profiles like Adobe Color and Adobe Standard. That's what the system is designed to do it's not designed to adjust them with camera matching profiles and calibrated profiles.
