Lightroom Back up Catalogues not importing

Hi. Following an attempt to free up space on my hard drive, I used a clean up software. Since then I am unable to get Lightroom to launch or open any of my backups! I have managed to create a new catalogue which seems to work fine but it will not let me import any of the old catalogues (25,000 images). Can anyone help?

Not evident in your question, but did you extract the backup catalog from its zip file before opening?

Preferably also copying the .LRCAT file to the usual folder location of your previous working catalog.
