Question

Lightroom can no longer open this catalog as it is too new

Hi,

I run Lightroom CC on my 2013 Mac with OS Catalina, this is my main PC, I also have a Windows 10 laptop for travel, both are high end specs, however.

On March 8th 2023 adobe upgraded Lightroom to v12, which will load onto my Windows laptop, but apparently Catalina is too old of an OS for this upgrade.

Now, when I'm switching between computers the backed up catalog on my windows laptop will not open on my Mac and a message is shown

The Lightroom catalog named “Lightrom_Catalog_2013_2022-v12-3” cannot be opened because it is too new to be used by this version of Lightroom. Would you like to select a different catalog?

Is there any method that will alow me to use the same catalog for both operating systems?

Yes you can open it. Try to upgrade your mac os into Monterey by using Opencore patcher. Watch some tutorials in youtube how to use open core patcher, Once installed you can upgrade your Lightroom in version 12.0 Goodluck!!

The only way to use the same catalog on both systems is if you downgrade Lightroom Classic on the PC to the same version as on the Mac, and use the catalog version of the Mac. Disable automatic upgrades in the CC app on the PC!

Thanks Johan,

This is what i was expecting as I had searched for alternative methods and found nothing.

I suppose I will have to make do with v11.5

Thanks again for your reply

Unfortunately, your version 12 catalog is not compatible with earlier versions of Lightroom.
