Lightroom catalog error

I've updated to Lr Classic 13 on Mac OS Ventura and get the Lr Classic Error "An error prevented Lr Clsssic from opening this catalog". So Lr can't be opened. I've done the recommended thing of deleting the Current file from Lrcat-data file but this didn't work. I've tried older catalogs and have to go back several years to find one that seems openable (but I didn't upgrade it as the next step for fear of making things worse.I woud be grateful for a solution to this exasperating problem!
