Lightroom Catalog Failing on External Hard Drive

I'm having issues with Lightroom filling up my internal hard drive with previews but everytime I transfer the catalog to an external drive it works for a day or so but then corrupts and can't be recovered. I've done this a dozen times with different computers, cords, and external hard drives. It is making Lightroom impossible to use. Any idea on why this is happening?
