Lightroom CC 2015.12 release running slow

Lightroom has been running pretty slow lately, taking a while to load images etc.  I went onto my desktop and deleted all but the last backup to try to clear up some space and then all of my images were gone.  I did however, leave the last backup so I was able to unzip the file and pull it back into LR.  The problem I am having now is that it is taking painfully long to load the thumbnails and my edits to these images.  Can anyone advise on how to fix this issue?

I am showing that I have a current version of LR downloaded and installed.  I am working on a 2014 iMac 27 in screen 3T storage

Correct answer Rob_Cullen

and then all of my images were gone.

This is the worrying statement for me. Do you mean the original camera files were deleted from the hard drive, or just the thumbnail previews in the Lightroom library?

it is taking painfully long to load the thumbnails

If you did in fact just delete the Previews folder, then Yes.!  Lightroom has to re-build all the previews by searching your original files and creating new previews. This does take a "painfully long time". It can be left to run over-night, or it will slowly re-build previews as you view photos to edit.
