Lightroom CC 7.1 - Problem adding some of my albums from external Hard Drive

Upgraded to Lightroom CC in early 2017. Currently using revision 7.1 with 1 Catalog, but have been using Photoshop Elements since version 4.

I was doing some housekeeping work recently, and realized that during my last upgrade from Photoshop 11.0 to Lr to Lr CC, that some of the sub-albums present on my external hard drive under the Year 2012, did not show up in Lr CC for the same year (not auto converted during cross over).

Issue:

Reviewing a few videos of how to link Lr CC to my albums on hard drive, I found that it did not work for me. Here are the steps indicated and which I took:

  1. 1. On left panel of Lr CC, I clicked “IMPORT” (all my albums, by year, were shown above under Folders)
  2. 2. Under Folders, I then selected the year and the specific sub-album
  3. 3. Then selected “ADD” from the top middle panel
  4. 4. While the photos showed up (ALL was auto selected), each photo appeared greyed out. None had the photos were framed in white border; the check mark for selection in top left of each photo was barely visible.
  5. 5. In the right panel, I had 2 headings: “File Handling” and “Apply During Import” which were active. No “Destination” heading (this may only be in earlier versions of Lr CC?)
  6. 6. Bottom right of 3rd panel, only CANCEL was highlighted. “IMPORT” was not, indicating it was not actionable.
  7. 7. Right clicking on a photo, says “This appears to be a duplicate of another phot in the Catalog”, (how do I determine where they are if duplicates exist?  Perhaps this is the issue?)

Note 1: On my external drive, I have several other Main Albums listed from 2002 to 2017, all with sub-albums. They all show up in Folders in Lr CC, but only sub-albums in 2017 allow me to ADD correctly.

Note 2: When I exit Lr CC, I always perform a Back-up. It states, ”Doing a back-up of Catalog 1-2”.  Is this suggesting I have 2 Catalogs? I have only worked on 1 Catalog?

Anyone have any experiences with this issue and how it was resolved?

Figured that "copies" may be the problem.

Starting with the "library" selected at top I followed your 4 steps, but where do I locate the "Lightroom Filter Bar"? Nothing is standing out for me.

    Thanks

If the Filter Bar is not present at the top of your Library Module, press \ (backslash)

    Thanks. For clarity, it is:

    Lightroom Classic version: 7.1 [ 1148620 ]

    License: Creative Cloud

    Language setting: en

Operating system: Windows 10 - Home Premium Edition

    Version: 10.0.16299

    Application architecture: x64

    System architecture: x64

Okay, so please do not refer to Lightroom 7.1 as LR CC. It is not LR CC.

Greyed out photos in Import are photos that are already imported into LR. There is no need to import them again, you need to find them in your Lightroom Library Module, and then you can perform all Lightroom tasks you want on them.

To find these photos in Lightroom. Follow ALL of these four steps, in order:

    1.   In the Lightroom Library Module, on the left, under Catalog, click on All Photographs

    2.   Turn off all filters (Ctrl-L once or twice)

    3.   Turn off all stacking (Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks)

    4.   Search for at least one of these photos by file name using the Lightroom Filter Bar

Before we go any further, your title says Lightroom 7.1, but your text consistently and multiple times refers to Lightroom CC.

So which is it? Lightroom 7.1 is not Lightroom CC, it is Lightroom Classic CC. Lightroom CC is an entirely different product.
