1. Create a backup.

2. Copy, do not move, the entire directory that contains your catalog to your external hard drive, all the files and folders, just as is. this assuming your images are in this folder.

3. Once done, open the catalog, the old catalog, from the original location, the one on your computers hard drive. In the library module, go into the folders panel, make sure the parent folder is shown. Right click on it, choose Update Folder Location, select the new folder.

3. Close Lightroom, now in the internal hard drive, rename the old catalog.

4. Relaunch Lightroom, check the folders tab, is it pointing to the external hard drive? Right click on some images and select to show in Finder (explorer), is that correct?

There is an option in the LR Classic Preferences for the location for storing images downloaded from the Web interface (pictures take with your phone tablet and imported into LR CC Mobile). It is on the LR Sync tab in the Location section.

You can Select any drive connected to your system as the storage location. But that will be for all new downloads. The older ones you will have to move over manually using the File Manager for the OS and then Reconnect them in LR.

your other image files you can move over to the external drive either in LR (sometimes this doesn't work properly) or with the file manager for the OS you are using then reconnect them in LR. Find Missing files.

That is Exactly the links I posted.

You can MOVE all your folders from one drive to another inside of LR. Once you have that other drive showing in the Folders section of the left hand panel of the Library module.

Or the BEST way to do that is with the File Manager that is included in the OS you are using, Finder for Mac or Win/File Explorer for Windows, and then Reconnect them using the instructions above.

If what you want is to create and exact Duplicate of all the folders and files on another drive, IE a BACKUP COPY, then use the File Manager in your OS to Copy them over to that other drive. That exact copy will not and should not be seen inside of LR.
