Lightroom CC Super slow, freezes and glitchy?

Hi there,

My lightroom (version: CC 2015.12 [ 1125239 ] ) has been really terrible for the past month or two. It's extremely slow to respond, lags and freezes ALL the time.  I have 32g of RAM on my computer, so I know that's definitely not the issue. It used to be SO fast

It doesn't seem like there are any updates or anything so I am not sure what's going on? it's take my FOREVER to edit and export photos because of this. I had a Adobe rep remotely try to fix it and whatever they did lasted until I closed the program and restarted it.  Thoughts?

I am doing a fair amount - more brushing than spot healing. And still more radial adjustments.

I don't know my CPU (I am not the best with that kind of thing) But  I have an upgraded asus Rog. I have upgraded it to 32g of RAM as mentioned earlier. Does that help?


Lots of brushing can cause the slowdowns that you are experiencing.

So if you want to try an experiment ... here's what to do. Take a dozen new photos of anything, cat or mayonnaise bottle, it doesn't matter what the photo contents are. Turn the GPU acceleration OFF (Preferences->Performance Tab->Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor"). Import those photos, do your normal edit but no brushing, no spot healing, and no radial filters. Does the problem happen, or not?

With new update (Feb-2025) Lightroom is slow, glithcy, and nonstop crashing!! Beware of wasting money on this program!! Lightroom would rather cram more AI in their recent update but they cant fix the underlilnging problem of Crashing, Glitchy, and very slow! FIX NOW

I have been enabling profile corrections forever,  but have recently started using the "transform" panel...could that be it?

That could certainly be a part of it, combined with the large amount of brushing.

Have you tried doing the brushing as the next to last editing step, then turning on lens corrections and transforms as the last step?

Same exact issue. Lightroom Classic was working like a champ for a year. I haven't changed a thing. I have 32g memory, Intel Core i7, full HD monitor and edit files of max size 6016x4016 pixels (full frame Nikon D750). I do a ton of adjustment brushing and spot healing. Just like cekiser5511 said, this was never a problem before. For you to tell me I have to change my work flow and do adjustment brushing last is not acceptable. Maybe I need to use my adjustment brush at the beginning of an edit to bring areas of an image where I want them in order to match other areas, then I want to adjust the entire image after. My edits are not more complex, my images are still the same size now as they always were, and I rarely, if ever, use lens corrections. For Lightroom to go from lightning fast to slow and super glitchy overnight, considering I haven't changed a thing, tells me that the problem is not on my end. I'm not a hobbyist photographer. I spend several hours every day in Lightroom and this has become a big enough issue on my end that it has slowed down my production time substantially considering I edit hundreds of photos weekly. I am using Windows 10 and my monitor is 1920x1080 pixels. The slow down occured, literally, overnight.

    Could you be much more specific about what actions in LR are slow? Please provide details.

    Are you doing a lot of brushing and/or spot healing?

    Please state your operating system.

    Please state the size of your images in pixels or megapixels (do not tell me megabytes).

    Please state the size of your monitor in pixels (do not tell me inches)

    Everything is slow. Making any adjustments takes a few seconds to actually register to the photo and many times when I make an edit, or switch modules, the screen goes black and freezes for a second or two then reloads.  Exporting my photos is also very very slow and does the same freezing.

    I use the radial filter a lot, but it freezes/is slow the same as global adjustments.

    Operating system is Windows 10.  My monitor is Full HD 1920x1080. Is that what you mean?

    I am editing RAW images around 3600x5500

    What about brushing and/or spot healing? You didn't comment on that. Are you doing a lot of that?

    What is your computer's CPU (exact make and model)?
