Lightroom Classic 12.0.1 error importing video

I often shoot photo + video, and will use Lightroom to quickly import and backup video files as as part of my regular workflow, do some quick culling and keywording, before working with videos in Premiere.  Workflow was sluggish but fine on Lightroom 11, but after updating to Lightroom 12.0.1 .MOV files aren't recognized, Import dialog shows "preview unavailable", and upon importing says "there was an error with your file" and LR lists all the .MOV

Manually moved files from the CF card to the local hard drive.  The still photos had imported fine so in an attempt to pull the video files through an import I tried to sychronize folder, and the same error occured

Third times a charm -- imported by clicking and dragging the whole folder from the finder to LR and it finally showed previews, and imported the files

Hopefully the next update will make this more reliable.
