Question

Lightroom Classic 12.2 won't start up

Need help with Lightroom classic. I have used it for many years now and I think I’ve come across this problem before, but I have forgotten how to solve this. I cannot open Lightroom classic at all when I right-click and select to open Lightroom classic. I get a loading symbol after pressing open which lasts for 10 seconds and stops and doesn’t open the software however, it does appear on the task manager as well. I’ve also signed in and out of the adobe creative cloud as well as reinstalling Lightroom, any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi, I was having seemingly this exact issue this morning.  Rebooted my computer and couldn't start lightroom, Same issue, nothing happened, no errors, and Lightroom running in the task monitor.  I deleted the lrcat files suggested and lightroom started without further issue (I hope).

Hope you were able to find resolution for your issue.

Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out.

Is there an error pop-up at launch or after you force quit from the task manager? Where is the Lightroom Catalog stored? Check the catalog location for any lrcat.wal & lrcat.lock files & move them to the trash & try again.

Try this if above-mentioned step does not help:

Reset Lightroom Classic following the second (manual) method from this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

I'm having exactly the same situation - Lightroom Classic 12.21.

I've backed up the catalog at 16.45 today and LrC hasn't worked since. I'v reset the preferences both using Shift + ALT on boot up and manually, uninstalled and reinstalled the software, closed down any other sessions, repaired Microsoft C+++ Distributables and so many other tips and pointers out there on the web with no joy.

The program is running in the background - I can see it in Task Manager and it's thrashing away, often eating up the entire RAM. But there's nothing on screen at all and nothing to interact with.

I've tried it on the other user account on this laptop and it works fine, even though the catalog is in the user folder for *this* account (I have to have two separate accounts, one for work and one for not-work). Both accounts have admin privileges and in any case I've tried running it as Administrator anyway to no effect.

It really is very frustrating. There are so many people out there who seem to have this issue and yet no firm or definitive advice. Help!!

Just as an update for those that are interested - and I really don;t mean to hijack thread - I've managed to get it working again (so far).

I looked into possible catalog errors or corruption but none of that seemed to be the issue and so I repaired all of the Windows Redistributable in Programs and Features - that had no effect either.

My next approach was to repair the Windows user account in case there was an unknown corruption there but that didn't seem to make any difference.

I wondered if there was something running in the background that was stopping it from booting properly and so I restarted the machine in Safe mood. Lightroom Classic booted up! By this time I was suspcious that Malware Bytes running on my machine could be an issue.

Restarted and removed MB and Lightroom Classic worked in non-safe mode. It's rebuilt me catalog and resynched my images from mobile.

I'm not claiming MB was the issue - maybe it was, maybe it wasn't - but it seems to be work with little lag.
