Lightroom Classic 12.4 intermittently stops accessing external drive.

Lightroom Classic 12.4 intermittently stops accessing external drive. Some previews still visible; other images are shown as missing. When I open a finder window, I don't see any files on the disk. To remedy, I have to close LR. Then I try to eject disk, but I get message that I can't because a program is using it. The only program that could be using the drive is LR, which I have already closed. So I have to force eject the drive & then reconnect it. Then I can restart LR & continue working on images until this happens again--usually after a period of inactivity. Disk first aid does not show any problem with the drive. PS does not have any problems accessing the disk, so it seems to be a problem with LR.

"Some previews still visible; other images are shown as missing. When I open a finder window, I don't see any files on the disk.  ... However, in Finder Window, all files are present."

I'm confused by your description -- first you say that Finder doesn't show any files on the disk, then you say it does?

Mac OS is often balky ejecting my external disks. Sometimes it's Finder that is refusing to let go of the disk, and doing Force Quit/Relaunch of Finder releases its hold and the Eject can complete.

Sounds like MacOS goes to sleep and spins down the disk, even though Lightroom still needs to access it. Try setting the sleep preferences to a longer period of inactivity, or disable sleep completely.

Thanks, but this fix doesn't work.

Does the same happen with another disk? I find it hard to believe that this could be a Lightroom problem. AFAIK all disk access is done at the OS level, not at the individual app level.
