Lightroom Classic crashes consistently during its built‑in catalog backup at the “Copying catalogue” stage.

Crash details

  • Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005)
  • Faulting symbol: AgRedeye_load
  • Crash occurs during catalog copy only
  • Editing itself is stable

Environment

  • Lightroom Classic 15.2.1
  • Windows 11 Pro build 26200
  • NVIDIA RTX 3080 (driver 32.0.15.8195)
  • Catalog size ~5 GB
  • Catalog on internal NVMe SSD (not OneDrive, not USB)
  • Backup destination on local SSD

Reproducibility

100% reproducible.

What has already been tested

  • Preferences reset
  • Full uninstall / reinstall of Lightroom Classic
  • All plugins disabled
  • GPU enabled and disabled
  • Multiple backup destinations
  • No sync or backup software running
  • Manual catalog copies succeed (workaround confirmed)

Crash persists in all cases.

Request

This appears to be an internal Lightroom Classic defect.
Please escalate to engineering — multiple identical crash reports are available.

(Crash report XML available on request.)

[View this post in your web browser. It contains formatting and images that don't appear in email.]

    NVIDIA RTX 3080 (driver 32.0.15.8195)

That driver is about 5 months old. Update to the latest Studio driver from here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/265478/

being sure to select the “clean install” option in the driver installation wizard. Other crashes referencing AgRedeye_load reported here have been fixed by installing the latest driver.

If this doesn’t help, then attach the full crash report here.

Update – tested latest Studio driver (clean install), issue persists

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve now updated to the latest NVIDIA Studio driver (595.79) using the Custom → Clean install option, as recommended.

Unfortunately, Lightroom Classic still crashes 100% reproducibly during the built‑in catalog backup at the “Copying catalogue” stage.

    Environment summary:

    • Lightroom Classic 15.2.1
    • Windows 11 Pro build 26200
    • NVIDIA RTX 3080 – Studio Driver 595.79 (clean install)
    • Catalog (~5 GB) on internal NVMe SSD (not OneDrive / not USB)
    • Backup destination on local SSD

What has already been ruled out:

    • Preferences reset
    • Full uninstall / reinstall of Lightroom Classic
    • All plugins disabled
    • GPU enabled and disabled
    • Multiple backup destinations
    • No sync or backup tools running during test

    Crash details remain unchanged:

    • EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005)
    • Faulting symbol: AgRedeye_load

Manual catalog copies (.lrcat + .lrcat‑data) succeed reliably as a workaround.

I’ve attached the latest full crash report XML. Please escalate this to Lightroom Classic engineering — this appears to be an internal defect rather than a configuration issue.

    Thanks for looking into this.

Your crash report strongly indicates that the crash is unrelated to the GPU driver. Previous crash reports reported here mentioning AgRedeye_load were driver-related.
