Lightroom Classic 15.5.1 – Incorrect Navigation After Changing Star Rating via Numeric Keypad
Version: Lightroom Classic 15.5.1
Camera Raw: 18.5.1
Operating System: macOS 26.5.2 (25F84)
Description
A navigation error occurs in the Develop module when using a star-rating filter and changing the star rating via the numeric keypad.
When only 5-star images are displayed and the currently displayed 5-star image is downgraded to 0 stars using the numeric keypad, Lightroom subsequently displays no image. Navigating with the cursor keys does not then move to the next remaining 5-star image. Instead, Lightroom jumps to the last 5-star image in the filtered selection.
However, if the same change is made using the context menu with the mouse, navigation works correctly.
Steps to Reproduce
-
Open Lightroom Classic 15.5.1.
-
Switch to the Develop module.
-
Use a collection or folder containing multiple images rated with 5 stars.
-
Set a filter that displays only 5-star images.
-
Select a 5-star image that is not the last image in the filtered selection.
-
Change the rating from 5 stars to 0 stars using the numeric keypad.
-
Lightroom subsequently displays no image and/or indicates that there is no image to display.
-
Navigate using the left or right cursor key.
Actual Behavior
After changing the rating to 0 stars, Lightroom no longer displays an image.
When subsequently navigating with the cursor keys, Lightroom jumps to the last 5-star image in the filtered selection, instead of navigating to the next remaining 5-star image.
Expected Behavior
After the currently displayed image is removed from the filtered selection, Lightroom should automatically move to the next image that still matches the active filter.
The behavior should be the same regardless of whether the rating is changed using the keyboard or the context menu.
Comparison Test
If I change the rating of the same image from 5 to 0 stars using the context menu via right-click, the problem does not occur.
In this case, Lightroom correctly moves to the next 5-star image.
Therefore, the issue appears to occur specifically when changing the rating using the numeric keypad or keyboard input.
Impact on Workflow
This issue is particularly disruptive when working with a fast image selection and rating workflow. I process large numbers of images and work almost exclusively with the keyboard. I assign and change star ratings using the numeric keypad.
The current behavior interrupts this workflow because, after downgrading an image from 5 to 0 stars, Lightroom loses the correct position within the filtered selection, requiring me to manually navigate back to the next image.
To the best of my knowledge, this behavior did not occur in previous versions of Lightroom Classic.
Please specifically check the navigation within an active star-rating filter after the rating of the currently displayed image is changed via the numeric keypad in a way that removes the image from the active filter selection.
