Lightroom Classic 9.1 Unexpected error opening catalog

As per my title and only really posting to help others.

Yesterday I upgraded my Windows 10 to the latest feature update 1909 and after a reboot opened Lightroom to do some photo editing. All went well with that and closed won and then shut down my PC.

Today I kept getting the dreaded "Lightroom catalog had an unexpetced error" and even trying a recent backup or three it wouldn't open. Tried various other fixes like running as admin, resetting file permissions and so on but in the end, I resorted to downgrading to LR 9.0.

All now working as expected and I will hold off updatign until at least 9.2 or later is released. Ho hum.

It's hard to figure why reverting to 9.0 might work, when it was working previously under 9.1. Doesn't make sense. Sounds more to me like an intermittent hardware error, most likely an intermittent hard disk error. If I were you, I'd run some diagnostics on your hard disk looking for bad sectors and other problems. And make sure you make regular backups of your catalog file (which I shouldn't need to tell you or tell anyone).

Figure what you like but I can assure you it isn't a hardware error - intermittemt or otherwise.

I posted what I posted to help, not to be tasked with doing stuff I don't need to nor need to explain to anybody. If it helps great, if it doesn't, then so be it, it's just another post that didn't help. There are millions of them on the Adobe forums 🙂

I will add that my upgrade to 9.1 was only yesterday and that, aside from the W10 upgrade were the only changes.

Easiest & quickest one to revert was 9.1 to 9 and that worked a charm.
