Question

Lightroom Classic

The opinion of @JP Hess and my opinion match.

It seems to me that you are concentrating on the wrong file. The raw file has much more image data to work with and has much more potential than any JPEG image. I primarily retain the raw images and create virtual copies for different versions. I only export JPEG images when needed to provide copies for other purposes such as the Internet, or to send to other individuals, or to send to a lab to be printed. Otherwise, I see very little need to have JPEG copies. However, that is only my opinion.

Grazie

There is no reason to "re-import" your RAW files. If they're on your hard disk and in your catalog once, that's all you need. If they're still on your camera's card because you haven't deleted them yet, you can uncheck those images during the import process to ensure that you don't end up with duplicates.

You should not delete your RAW files after editing them and creating jpg's. The RAW files are your digital negatives, and are actually far more useful and valuable than the jpg version. I find that I often go back and re-edit my RAW files from years ago as my LightRoom and Photoshop skills improve. As JimHess noted, you don't actually need to create jpg's unless you are supplying them to someone else, or uploading to a photo sharing site.

You shouldn't be re-importing the photos.

A series of photos a few days later.

So those would be new photos. What has that to do with re-importing? (statement made in your first post)
