Question

Lightroom classic and cc sync

Hi

I migrated my main catalogue and synced 40k of photos into Adobe Cloud via Lightroom CC.

I now want to continue working in Lightroom Classic but sync specific collections into Adobe cloud / LR CC.

As soon as I turn on sync in Lightroom Classic it starts syncing 40k photos again - why? I assume it downloads everything from CC? I definitely do not want any duplicates anywhere, I just want both apps to be in sync, Classic being my main tool.

How do I set up LR so I don't download the same photos I just uploaded for weeks again but that gives me the option to upload collections (I'm aware these will be smart previews) into the cloud and therefore CC?

Thanks
Teresa

Migrating a catalog is for changing from Lightroom Classic to Lightroom. If you want to keep using Lightroom Classic and want to sync some collections (as smart previews) to the cloud, then don't migrate your catalog but simply enable sync in Lightroom Classic.

The easiest option would be to start again. Use Lightroom desktop to delete everything that's in the cloud, then start syncing collections from Lightroom Classic.

I wanted to have everything until now in the cloud and not just smart previews (I have 100gb storage) as I travel a lot. So that was the only way to do it. It took weeks for me to upload everything into the cloud and that was the whole point, but from now I want to be more selective. So deleting everything is not my solution 🙂

In that case you will have no choice but to wait this out. Lightroom Classic will download everything again, so you can delete the old copies after that has finished. Make sure you delete the old copies, not the copies that have just been downloaded! If you delete the downloaded copy, you will delete it from the cloud as well.

Hi have a look at this article and you will have a clearer understanding of how the two apps interact.

Thank you, I do understand how these work and I'm aware I would have to import through CC to have it in the cloud and then sync back to lightroom classic but how can I prevent to have EVERYTHING synced back?
