Lightroom Classic and OneDrive Always Keep On This Device

I will soon rebuild my Windows 11 PC and I’m considering storing my Lightroom Classic libraries and photos so that they are on local storage and simultaneously copied to the cloud by OneDrive. I believe the OneDrive parameter is “Always keep on this device”. Since I’m configuring OneDrive this way I do not expect any issues but I’m turning to this group to validate or correct my assumption. Is this likely to cause an issue?

I would avoid catalog files in a OneDrive folder, even if you set the option to keep files local. A-V-O-I-D.

One possibility is to put the catalog file somewhere else, then make regular and automated backups of the catalog file to the OneDrive folder.

What do you mean by "libraries and photos"? If you mean your catalog file will be in this OneDrive folder, do not do that. Catalog files can easily get corrupted when the OneDrive sync isn't as fast as you might want it to be, or if Sync with OneDrive stops in the middle. I think you are asking for trouble. I think you will wind up with occasional (or even frequent) corrupted catalogs.

Thanks for your quick response and yes, I should have said catalog and not libraries. Does the issue you are referring to happen even though OneDrive is instructed to always keep files local?

I wonder how often this happens unintentionally. If I remember correctly, LR Classic defaults to the Photos directory for the catalog and Windows 10 and 11 by default will include the Photos directory in OneDrive. This later can be overridden but the user would need to know to do that.

thanks again for your input.
