Lightroom Classic CC copy/paste settings color issue

Hi all,

I am having a problem where in lioghtroom classic cc where I am applying presets and tweaking color for proofs in the develop menu.  I have sent the original .ARW files (I have also tried sending tiffs) to my retoucher she then sends them back to me as a tiff with her changes.  I am then attempting to right click my modified .ARW file and go to settings and copy settings. I then go and paste the settings onto the tiff I receive from my retoucher.  After I paste it the colors do not match.

Thanks so much for the help.

Reading the above 1) You are applying settings to the original raw file and then 2) Send the original raw file to a retoucher who adds different edits, followed by 3) You trying to merge your original edits with the retoucher's edits. This will not work because copying and pasting your edits "overwrites" the retoucher's edits.

First question is why are you BOTH editing the pictures? You need to provide more information as to who is applying what edits and why? We can provide workflow suggestions once we better understand your objective.

I should clarify, the retoucher is using Photoshop to remove blemishes and other imperfections. I am using lightroom for everything else.

If your retoucher is working on the raw file in Lightroom, she should save metadata to file, and send you the xmp file that will be created next to the raw file. (in the same folder) You should then put the xmp file in the same folder as the raw file on your computer, and then choose Read metadata from file in Lightroom.

Applying the same edits to a raw file and a tiff will not produce identical results because they are fundamentally different file types.

My retoucher is using Photoshop to edit the raw file that I send her. I don't know Photoshop as well, but I believe she can't export the edited version as a .raw file, is that correct? So I'm not sure how to maintain the metadata.

Once a raw file is opened in Photoshop, it is no longer a raw file, but a regular RGB file – a new file which is derived from the raw file. And Photoshop cannot save as a raw file. (only digital cameras can save raw files) The exception would be if the file was edited in Camera Raw (which does the same editing as Lightroom), your retoucher could then send you an xmp file, and there would be no need to send a tiff.

How exactly are you copying edits from the tiff to the raw file?

Hi Paulaboggust,

Could you please let us know the exact version of Lightroom you're working on?
Also, does it happen with a particular file or all files?

Regards,
Sahil
