Lightroom Classic CC not importing new JPGs

My preferred workflow is:

  1. Select a raw file from Lightroom Classic CC's catalog.
  2. From the Develop module, choose Edit in Photoshop CC (cmd-E).
  3. After making Photoshop edits, Save As a new PSD file.
  4. Then choose File > Export > Save for Web. Save file as a new JPG. So now there is one new PSD, and one new JPG.
  5. Return to Lightroom, which now displays the new PSD file in its Catalog.

I also want the Catalog to contain the new JPG, so I try to Import it. But Lightroom fails to recognize the new JPG, hence it cannot be imported from my hard drive. It doesn't appear to be in any stack, either.

If, instead of using File > Export > Save for Web to create the JPG, I use File > Export > Export As, the resulting JPG is still not recognized by Lightroom Import.

Only if I use File > Export > Quick Export as JPG in Photoshop, then Lightroom does allow me to Import the new JPG.

Since I prefer the optimizing controls and interface available in the Photoshop Save for Web option, is there a way to get Lightroom to recognize the new JPGs as worthy of Import?

Is it possible that your Lightroom preferences are set so that Lightroom sees the JPG as a "Sidecar" file and will not import it.

Set your Lr preferences 'on' to [Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos]

If you simply create the JPG (by Save As, or Export as) with the same file name as your PSD (or TIFF) then this preference decides if Lr will Import it, or not.

With the preference 'un-checked' the JPG will be a 'sidecar' file to the PSD and not import.

An alternative: Don't do "Save As". Simply do a Save.

Is a correct answer!  for the first saving of the PSD (or TIF) file from Ps, that will then appear in the Lr catalog automatically.

It is the OP's 'second' step in Ps, of also saving (or Exporting for web) the same image as a JPG that upsets the Lightroom 'Import' or folder 'synchronize'- depending on the preference option.

I discovered this apparent "sidecar" problem for myself when creating JPGs from the Ps edit. I now prefer to export the JPG from the PSD/TIF in Lightroom with a suitable Export preset (3 mouse clicks), and the export option to "add to this catalog" checked on, and a file rename. This works irrespective of the Lr preference [Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos].
