Question

Lightroom Classic edits didn't save after I closed last time

Hi,

I'm desperate to find an answer because I put in so much work.. but I recent did a whole heaps of editing, then closed Lr. When I reopened to resume editing, none of my edits are showing. It's also mega slow.. like some of the thumbnails aren't even showing or loading properly. So I'm doing a clean up and seeing if that helps, but is it possible they just didn't save??

Can you post in a reply a full screen screenshot capture of your LrC Develop Module, with one of the problematic images selected. It may be important to see the History Panel, The Navigation Panel, and the Histogram (for some reason when many members share such a screenshot their History panel is poorly shown, typically their Presets panel is taking over)

Oh, and see:

And in this community, when posting screenshots, please use the Inserrt Photo Button

Ok, I watched your video, a library previews issue???

You were mentioning that the edits did not save. What so you see in the Develop Module, in the Loupe View, and in the History Panel? Do the various develop edits you made show up?

Are Library Previews not saving properly being conflated with edits not keeping?

No edits showing in develop.. the thumbnails in the video are the thumbnails in develop module. History also shows nothing.. it just says last thing was it being imported

So with no other help suggested here, I had to try solve it on my own. Deleting the previews.lrcat file worked to solve the strange previews issue... but my edits are still not showing. All that work down the drain, and having to start again.

I would still love an answer anyway if anyone else sees this response and wants to make suggestions.. even if its to help someone else in future.

A few observations/inquiry's

First up in your first screenshot, I see that you have four catalog, what one are you working on, and are you sure that you have the correct catalog open? (I have annotated your screenshot as seen below):

Second up, in Finder, could you select to show as a List. Would be nice to see file dates.

P.S. In that screenshot. I see a folder named backups, I hope that is not where you keep your backups. They should not be on the same hard drive as the working catalogs

I use the catalog that's highlighted here... honestly I don't know how everything else got created. The backups folder is empty.. I don't even know how that got there either, but I just checked, it's empty, and I definitely don't back up on the same harddrive

I don't know about the slow, but your edits should be there. I am thinking perhaps you have (accidentally?) imported photos twice, and one set has no edits and the other set does have edits. Would you please do a search in LrC following all 4 of these steps?

  1. Click on All Photographs on the left hand side of the Library Module
  2. Turn off Filters (Ctrl-L once or twice)
  3.  Expand all stacks (Library->stacking->Expand All Stacks)
  4.  Use the filter bar to search for at least one of these photos by file name

Let us know the results.

Have checked - no go. Shows the one image, unedited. Also one or two of them that I edited have now popped up, so I know it's definitely in the right location.

I just cleaned my laptop up (though it's a beast and has a crap load of space, so I don't see that that was an issue), and have also wiped some space on the harddrive because that was getting very low (so low that I had to start a new harddrive for my next catalog, but have just switched back to the old one to complete my last gallery on there. I thought space might be the issue so I cleared 40GB of space to see if it functions properly... still not working).

This, however, is a screenshot of my folder for the catalog (yes I know it's a strange name for a catalog - I accidentally named it this when I first started it and didn't want to rename it.) But there's loads of strange files in there and it looks messy... any suggestions??

And this (see video)!!! I just realised.. every time I click on a greyed out thumbnail, it loads it (faster now thankfully), but greys out a different thumbnail?? As if it wants 5 or 6 to be greyed out at all times. Like this is surely a LR glitch right?? Wtf is going on...
