Lightroom Classic Import dialog hangs

Question

Yesterday there were no problems, this morning the problems started.
1. Lightroom Classic opens normally.
2. Import window opens, but hangs when I want to select a destination

3. restarted my mac, opening LR without any devices attached.

4. same thing happens

5. restarted my mac, opening LR without any devices attached, shutting off the GPU

6. same thing happens

7. updated to latest version (14.5), and did all of the above

8. same thing happens

9. Now it hangs even when opening LR.

Mac Sonoma 14.6
M3 Max - 64Gb RAM

I've found the problem: it was my hard disk.... Apparently it stopped working. I've had it since june....

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
