Lightroom Classic Import doesn't show all photos on iPhone 14 Pro

Recently when I connect my iPhone to my Mac and select Import in LrC, what it shows as photos and videos available to import (I have all available, not just "new" selected) does not reflect what is on the iPhone. It has some of the items, but seems to arbitrarily not see other items. Some photos from an activity show, but not others. Some from one day, but then not the day before or after, but then some from several days later. Very random as far as I can tell.

Of note, all the items on my iPhone are also sync'd to my Photos app on the Mac and show up in iCloud. So, the content is there, LrC Import window just not seeing it. I've been using LrC and importing from iPhones for about 4 years and never once experienced this issue.

I have rebooted the phone and restarted the computer with no change in behavior. Given the issue, I'm not really clear what the problem is so hard to knowwhat to try next...

Any suggestions?

I had the same problem, turned out it was the lightning port on my iphone (12pro).  Gentle cleaning with a small brush and very very careful use of a wooden toothpick fished out far more pocket fluff than I'd have thought possible.

If Lightroom Classic is not seeing your phone photos , this is the best explanation I found of what is happening

Do the menu command Help > System Info and verify you're running LR 12.5 (the latest version). LR 12.4 had a bug with importing via USB cables, which was fixed in 12.5.

If that doesn't help, some workarounds to consider while waiting for this to be addressed:

- Use the Mac Image Capture app to import from the phone to the local disk, then import to LR from there.

- Install the LR app on the phone, and enable automatic sync of the phone's camera roll to the LR Cloud, then sync from the cloud to LR Classic.  Once it's set it up, photos taken on the phone show up soon enough in LR Classic.

johnrellis, thank you. I used Image Capture to pull from iphone and then imported from that folder. It appears I get the same results if I select items from Photos on Mac and then Export as "Unmodified Original", both photos and videos. Does that sound right?

I am using LrC 12.5 and have auto-updates turned on with Creative Cloud.

In my previous experience of sending files from Lr Mobile to Photos, the format was converted to jpg. But, I want the DNG raw files which is why I usually plug in the iPhone and import to LrC desktop from there.

Is there a way to have the original unmodified files captured on the iPhone Camera to auto-sync to Lr Mobile? What about videos which I would only want to sync to LrC on desktop, not Lr Mobile?

Thanks very much!

"In my previous experience of sending files from Lr Mobile to Photos, the format was converted to jpg."

When Apple first introduced the HEIC format to IOS, I vaguely recall that by default HEIC photos would get converted to JPEG when they were exported out of the phone, e.g. by syncing.

But these days, when you enable the LR Mobile App Settings > Import > Auto Add From Device Photos, LR Mobile will automatically import HEICs from the camera roll, and they'll get synced to the LR Cloud as HEICs, and down to LR Classic as HEICs.

I don't have a later Iphone capable whose native Camera app can take Prores raws in DNG, but I'd be mildly surprised if syncing with LR Mobile converts them to JPEG.
