Lightroom Classic is intermittently hiding 5-star photos from filtered results and showing “No photo selected” when I try to edit. Restarting Lightroom temporarily fixes it, and turning off the GPU did not help.

I’m experiencing a recurring issue in Lightroom Classic where photos temporarily disappear from filtered results and Develop loses the selected photo.

My normal workflow is to cull and edit using star ratings and the star-rating filter. For example, I have a photo that is definitely rated 5 stars and edited. When I filter to show my rated/5-star images, Lightroom sometimes says there are no photos matching the filter, even though the image is still in the catalog and still has the 5-star rating.

If I close Lightroom Classic and reopen it, the missing photo reappears in the catalog and shows the correct 5-star rating again.

I’m also seeing a second issue in the Develop module: I can select a photo normally, but when I click a preset or try to make an adjustment, Lightroom will suddenly switch to “No photo selected.” Restarting Lightroom may temporarily resolve this as well.

I have already tested turning the GPU off, but the issue has still occurred.

This is especially disruptive because I photograph weddings and use star-rating filters as part of my normal high-volume culling/editing workflow. I’m working with thousands of images, so photos disappearing from filtered results or becoming deselected in Develop makes it difficult to trust the catalog view.

Example: image 4643 is rated 5 stars and edited. It disappeared from my rated-filter results, then reappeared with the correct 5-star rating after I closed and reopened Lightroom Classic.

This has nothing to do with the GPU. Filters don’t use it. Try resetting the preferences:

Also check how the filter is setup. What you describe is often the result of the image no longer matching the criteria. For example; you filter on images that have five stars and no adjustments. As soon as you apply a preset, the image no longer fits the filter criteria, because now it does have adjustments. And so it disappears from the filtered results.
